With Canvass Complete, Connolly Reiterates Gratitude for Election to 2nd Term

With the canvass of the votes completed today, Democratic U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly reiterated his “deep gratitude to the voters of the 11th Congressional District of Virginia for electing me to a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives. It is a great privilege to serve the citizens of the 11th District, and I do so with deep respect for our citizens, our state and our great nation.”

Connolly’s statement was accompanied by a statement from his campaign manager James Walkinshaw, which stated, “The results of the official canvasses by the electoral boards in the three jurisdictions of the 11th District make it crystal clear that Gerry Connolly has won reelection to a second term…Regardless of the rhetoric emanating from the losing candidate’s campaign, the election is over and Connolly is the winner.”

Walkinshaw added, “The statements by Mr. Fimian, his campaign, and other partisans suggesting the outcome of this race can be reversed are not credible or based on the facts and statistics from the canvass. It is Mr. Fimian’s prerogative to seek a recount but, quite frankly, it would be a waste of taxpayer dollars.”
