MEH 5th Graders Learn Native American Culture

Fifth-grade students at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School learned about Native American culture during the first Native American Day last week.

Fifth-grade students at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School learned about Native American culture during the first Native American Day last week.

“With unfamiliar names like Iroquois and Kwakiutl difficult to remember, Encore team pitched in with an arts integration idea to help students retain the required Social Studies concepts,” reported F.C. City Public Schools Communications Specialist John Brett.

Wearing team jerseys with the names of tribes, students rotated through five stations where they learned an Iroquois story, played lacrosse, learned a music game, made bead shakers and worked with natural dyes.
