Alleged Metro Station Attack Plot Foiled, Report Says

A developing plot to bomb Metro rail stations in the D.C. region was foiled by federal law enforcement officials, theWashington Post reported today, involving a Northern Virginia-based suspect who was due to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Alexandria this afternoon.

The suspect was the subject of an undercover sting operation, according to the report, after attempting to obtain unspecified materials. The man, identified as Farooque Ahmed of Ashburn, was arrested in Herndon and Post sources said he was acting alone and that his plans were not set to be carried out imminently. There was no mention of specific Metro stations that were included in his plans.
