Regency Centers Corp.’s Willston Centre II will become a test site for the Department of Energy Solid State Lighting Technology Demonstration Gateway program. The 127,449-square-foot shopping center’s parking lot will be outfitted with light-emitting diode lighting. An extensive renovation was completed last month at the 14-year-old shopping center at 6118 Arlington Boulevard. The DOE predicts LED parking lot lights will reduce parking lot energy needs by more than 50 percent and maintenance costs by more than 80 percent in comparison to traditional parking lot lights. In addition to participating in this DOE initiative, Regency Centers has installed smart irrigation controllers at 90 shopping centers nationwide, LEED-certified and LEED-registered 11 shopping centers that are under construction and has been selected by the U.S. Green Building Council to author its Green Retail Guide. Regency’s corporate greengenuityTM initiative includes a commitment to LEED certify a minimum of 60 percent of development starting this year. For more information visit www.regencycenters.com.
