Mini-Walk for Homeless Helps Shelter House

The Patrick Henry Family Shelter, operated by Shelter House, will host a Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Mini-Walk to raise funds to prevent and end homelessness Saturday, Oct. 23 at 9:30 a.m. The first annual Community Open House will follow the walk and shall include shelter tours, children’s activities, a scavenger hunt, door prizes, and much more. Shelter House is dedicated to providing crisis intervention, temporary housing and supportive services to promote self sufficiency for homeless families and victims of domestic violence in Fairfax County. At the Patrick Henry Family Shelter, Shelter House serves seven large homeless families of five members or more every day and most of its residents are children. One hundred percent of every walker registration from this Mini-Walk will go toward Shelter House’s programs and services for homeless families in Fairfax County.

The Mini-Walk is one of hundreds of walks being hosted across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area as part of the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Program. The Program culminates with the 23rd Annual Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon on Saturday, Nov. 20 on the National Mall

Registration this Saturday opens at 9 a.m., and the Community Open House following the walk will go until noon. The Mini-Walk and community open house festivities will take place at the Patrick Henry Family Shelter (3080 Patrick Henry Dr., Falls Church).

This event is open to the public. Walker registration is $25 for adults and $15 for youth up to age 25.
