Alyssa Lauren Godwin of Falls Church spent her summer interning at Youth Villages, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families live successfully.

Youth Villages provides a variety of programs to help children who have suffered abuse or neglect, or who have emotional and behavioral issues. Godwin interned at Youth Villages’ Bartlett Campus, helping children in residential treatment learn more positive behavior patterns and deal with past trauma.

Godwin is a senior at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va. She is majoring in psychology and plans to pursue a career in school counseling.
