FCA Hosts Juried ‘Abstract Expressions’ Show

Falls Church Arts (FCA) announced last Friday its upcoming Abstract Expressions Juried Show, an FCA members art exhibit, will be held Friday, Sept. 17 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at ArtSpace Falls Church (410 S. Maple Ave., Falls Church). Abstract Expressions features works in various media by FCA members, and will open with a reception that Friday. This free show continues through Oct. 3, Saturdays and Sundays from noon – 4 p.m. For this show, FCA invited its members to abandon the representational and explore abstraction in any and all media.

The show’s juror is Karen J. Schmitz, an award-winning painter and printmaker from Alexandria. She has organized, curated and juried numerous art exhibitions and events for the Del Ray Artisans (DRA). Schmitz is a former DRA board member and served as the Gallery Coordinator. She has exhibited in many art venues throughout the Washington, D.C. area, including Numark Gallery, Ellipse Gallery, The Art League Gallery, Washington Printmakers Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

FCA is a nonprofit, community-based organization founded in 2003. Its purpose is to ensure that visual art and the performing arts are an essential part of the cultural environment of the City of Falls Church and the surrounding area. For more information, visit fallschurcharts.org.
