Area Athletes Awarded Scholarships

The Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) recognized three Falls Church area graduating senior athletes with the league’s annual scholarships.

The Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) recognized three Falls Church area graduating senior athletes with the league’s annual scholarships.

The 2010 MacDuff Scholarship winner was Chloe Grishaw of Falls Church. Grishaw attended the Potomac School where she was a member of the swim and dive team and served as team captain for the 2009-2010 swim season. Potomac’s dive team won the Independent school state championship in 2008 and 2010. Grishaw also coaches diving at Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet.

Grishaw will be attending The College of William and Mary this fall.

The Presidents’ Scholarship was earned by Alex Howe of Falls Church. Howe is a member of the Holmes Run Acres swim team and has been involved in the NVSL for 13 years. He has received numerous team awards and honors in his NVSL career. Howe graduated from Falls Church High School where he was a part of the swim team and served as team captain for the 2009-2010 swim seasons. He was an All-District swimmer for three years, and was student body president for the 2009-2010 school year.

Howe plans to attend Brigham Young University.

The Spirit Scholarship honors the memory of Olivia Aull and is received by Natalie Leake for 2010. Leake is a member of the Lee-Graham Swim and Dive in Falls Church. While at Lee-Graham, she set both team records and NVSL records. She was captain of her high school swim team for the 2010 season.

Leake will attend Virginia Tech in the fall.
