F.C.’s GEORGE Bus System Terminated by City Council

The Falls Church City Council voted 6-1 to terminate the City’s local GEORGE bus system as of late September. Low ridership and high subsidy levels since its initiation in 2002 have led to cutbacks in the system, and the Council gave it one more quarter of the current fiscal year to see if a way could be found to revive it. Strongly opposing the decision was Councilman David Snyder.

The motion to terminate was made by Robin Gardner and seconded by Ron Peppe. Two motions to retain a scaled back system made by Snyder died for lack of seconds.
