F.C. Native Robert Stanley Major Dies

Robert Stanley Major, a native of Falls Church and resident until his retirement in the late 1980s, died on July 5. He was a firefighter who contributed to the Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a retired captain in the Arlington Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedic Association.

In addition to that service, he was an outstanding school bus driver and was director of the Falls Church City Schools Department of Transportation. He was responsible for transporting children to and from schools as well as taking students on field trips and athletic events.

Helen Major, Mr. Major’s wife, was secretary and receptionist for the Falls Church City Recreation and Parks Department for many years. The couple’s children, Carolyn Lee Johnson and Barbara Ann Buckley grew up in the Falls Church area.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Major had a positive influence on programs for students and adults in Falls Church, according to former Falls Church City Schools Superintendent Dr. Warren Pace.
