5 Mustangs Selected To VHSL All-State 1st & 2nd Teams

George Mason High School’s state champion boys soccer team was well represented when the Virginia High School League announced 2010 All-State Single-A Soccer honors last week.

Adding to his earlier All-Met First Team selection, Mason’s Nick Smirniotopoulos was named Player of the Year and was selected to the All-State First Team.

In addition to Smirniotopoulos, George Mason’s Alex Casteuble was also selected to the first team, while fellow Mustangs Patrick Rollo, Andrew Arias and Tyler Back each earned second team honors.

George Mason High finished their championship year with a 2-1 win over Radford in the State Tournament, earning them their first ever back-to-back state titles. The squad ended the season with a 19-1-3 record and ranked fourth overall in the Washington Post’s high school team rankings.
