National Funeral Home Fined

The Falls Church-based National Funeral Home, accused of mishandling bodies awaiting burial at Arlington National Cemetery, has been fined $50,000 for circumventing Virginia regulations, according to the Associated Press. A consent order was signed by the home and the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers this week. National Funeral Home agreed to the fine, two years probation and a half dozen unannounced inspections per year. The $50,000 fine is reportedly one of the highest ever handed to a funeral establishment in Virginia. A spokeswoman for Service Corporation International, the National Funeral Home’s parent company, says the agreement is not an admission of guilt.
