GMHS Chorus Performs Concert Tonight

A SPRING CONCERT by the George Mason High Performing Arts Department, directed by Mary Jo Webster (far left) included a percussion ensemble, flute quartet, jazz ensemble, concert band, clarinet quartet and symphonic band (shown here). The school’s music department recently won the Blue Ribbon Award from the Virginia Music Educators Association. Bailey’s Elementary to Offer Summer Food Program

 

Bailey’s Elementary School will be one of 12 Fairfax County Public Schools participating in USDA’s summer food program. The program makes it possible for low-income children to receive healthy meals during summer break. The program starts July 12 at Bailey’s and goes through Aug. 5 during breakfast.

 

Stuart & Poe Team Together For ‘Jazz Night’

Jazz Night, featuring the jazz bands from Stuart High and Poe Middle Schools, will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 11, at Stuart High (3301 Peace Valley Ln., Falls Church).

Among the musical selections to be performed by the 20-member Stuart Jazz Band are arrangements of “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes,” “I Thought About You” and “St. Thomas.” For more information, call 703-824-3900.

 

GMHS & Marshall High Seniors Prepare for Trips

Kings Dominion will welcome Marshall High School’s senior class on Monday, June 14. George Mason High School will take their senior class trip the following day to Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

 

Stuart High School Hosts Spring Choral Concert

J.E.B. Stuart High School’s chorus will perform in the Spring Choral Concert to close out the school year. The concert will be held at the Stuart High Auditorium (3301 Peace Valley Ln., Falls Church) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 10. For more information, call 703-824-3900.

 

Marshall High School  to Award Senior Class

On Wednesday, June 16 all, George C. Marshall High School students are requested to come honor those about to graduate. Also, select underclassmen will be honored. The ceremony will be held during normal school hours. Seniors must wear business casual attire underneath their cap and gown.

 

Annandale High School Announces Film Festival

On Friday, June 11, in the Annandale High School Auditorium (4700 Medford Dr., Annandale), 16 movies will be shown.  Genres range from music videos to documentaries. The festival begins at 6 p.m. and the entrance fee is $5. For more information, call 703-642-4100.

 

Langley H.S. Teacher Wins Top Honors

Brigitte Lavey, a social studies teacher from Langley High School, received Fairfax County Public School’s top teaching honor, Teacher of the Year. In order to be nominated for Teacher of the Year, nominees must demonstrate outstanding leadership as well as instilling a desire to learn, among other qualities.

 

McLean’s Franklin Sherman E.S. Wins ‘Best of Web’

Franklin Sherman Elementary School in McLean is one of five winners of annual Best of the Web contest, sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). Winners were judged on the high quality of web communication between each school and the community served. Content, clarity of design, frequency of updates, ease of navigation and adherence to FCPS web policies were the categories under review.
