Mason’s Natalie Young Takes First at Track Championship

Sports---GMHS-track2The Virginia High School League Group A State Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held on June 5 at Radford University. George Mason High School was represented by six athletes at the meet: freshman Julia Estrada, sophomores Eva Estrada and Natalie Young, juniors Daniel Drawbaugh and Mollie Breen and senior Brandy Arredondo. Young won the 3200 meter run (roughly two miles) with a time of 11:47 and finished second in the 1600 meter race with a time of 5:18.

The Virginia High School League Group A State Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held on June 5 at Radford University.

George Mason High School was represented by six athletes at the meet: freshman Julia Estrada, sophomores Eva Estrada and Natalie Young, juniors Daniel Drawbaugh and Mollie Breen and senior Brandy Arredondo.

Young won the 3200 meter run (roughly two miles) with a time of 11:47 and finished second in the 1600 meter race with a time of 5:18.

Julia Estrada took fourth place in the 1660 at 5:31, and Eva Estrada finished four seconds later to claim seventh. Breen finished eleventh at 5:53.

In the 3200, Eva Estrada came in fourth at 12:38, Julia Estrada took seventh (12:50) and Breen finished ninth (13:05).

Arredondo placed third in the girls 800 meter dash with a time of 2:28, which was a season best for her.

Daniel Drawbaugh placed ninth in the boys 800. His time of 2:04 set a new George Mason High School record.

The girls team placed third overall.

Eva Estrada, Julia Estrada and Young were all named to the track and field All State team.
