A fundraiser for the family of fallen Montgomery County Police Officer Hector Ayala was held at JV’s Restaurant in Falls Church last Sunday afternoon.
Officer Ayala, 31, who served with the Montgomery County Police for seven years, was killed in an automobile accident on April 4, Easter Sunday, while responding to a backup call. Ayala, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant, is survived by his wife and 15 month old son. His widow is pregnant with triplets due to be born in June.

The event was tri-sponsored by JV’s Restaurant, the Untouchables of D.C., (a police motorcycle club) and the Montgomery County Police Department. Pipes and drums were played by representatives from three organizations — DC Pipes and Drums, Shields of Montgomery and Montgomery County Firefighters. After a moment of silence, the group played a stirring performance of Amazing Grace and a repertoire of patriotic songs, brining many to tears.
The event was well attended by both locals and those who came especially to pay tribute to the fallen officer. Amongst the latter were members of the Renegade Pigs Motorcycle Club for law enforcement and fire fighters.
JV’s owner Lorraine Campbell is a longtime supporter of local law enforcement organizations; the restaurant was the original sponsor for the Untouchables Motorcycle Club of D.C. Asked why she decided to hold this particular fundraiser, Campbell said, “I have tremendous respect for police organizations throughout our community and try to do what I can to show my support. As a business owner, I feel a special duty to support law enforcement, since they are always ready to help and support small businesses.”
Music for the event was provided by The Walkaways. Almost $2,000 was raised for the Ayala family.
JV’s Restaurant is located at 6666 Arlington Boulevard in Falls Church.
