A DRAMATIC SCENE developed at the intersection of Route 7 and Virginia Avenue in downtown Falls Church at 5:15 p.m. today, when a vehicle collision caused one car, shown in the foreground, to slam into a lightpost, and a second vehicle, a van, to go over onto its side. Falls Church Police and paramedics were at the scene immediately, as was Falls Church Public Information Officer Barbara Gordon, who reports that one passenger has been removed by ambulance to the hospital complaining of a head injury, and the second was being prepared for transport in a second ambulance complaining of chest pains. The air bags deployed in both vehicles, and the exact events that led to the collision are still under investigation.
