One-hundred-and-forty-one violations were discovered in 41 commercial motor vehicles during motor carrier safety inspections conducted by Fairfax County police Wednesday morning.

Officers assigned to the Motor Carrier Safety unit conducted inspections in the area of Lee Highway and Gallows Road on Wednesday, April 28, from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. The location was selected in an effort to bring attention to the importance of motor carrier safety, police said.

Properly secured loads and up-to-date equipment and licensure are critical components of keeping trucks moving in and out of the area. Twenty-four of the 141 violations were considered critical enough to put the vehicle out of service if not immediately repaired. Fourteen trucks were taken out-of-service on the scene. A variety of infractions were identified including: faulty brakes, flat or badly worn tires, steering mechanism problems, suspension issues, cracked frames, and more.

Eleven Fairfax County officers and four Virginia State troopers participated in the inspection.
