George Mason High’s Odyssey of the Mind team took third place at Saturday’s Virginia state competition, held in Newport News. The team had won first at the regional level in early March. For the competition, the Mason team wrote and presented an original humorous skit, in addition to making the backdrop, props and costumes. Odyssey of the Mind is a problem-solving competition. Teams are judged on the creativity and style of their presentation, and on the originality of their solution to the problem posed. The Mason team consisted of seniors Chantel Bailey, Julia Douglas, Wendy Herbst, Patrick Lee, Jenny Lewis and Alex Maher, and has competed together for seven years. The team has advanced to the state finals five times, and once to the world finals. (Photo: Courtesy Laurie Lewis)
