F.C. Vegan Bake Sale Set for Saturday

If predictions for a sunny weekend hold true, Falls Church-based animal rights group Compassion For Animals will hold a vegan bake sale benefiting relief efforts for earthquake-torn Haiti.

The bake sale is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, in front of the Giant Food in Falls Plaza Shopping Center at 1230 W. Broad St. in Falls Church.

Volunteers from the Falls Church area will be baking cookies, muffins, breads and more sweet goods from non-animal-based ingredients. Falls Church bakery café Natalia’s Elegant Creations is also chipping in with vegan cupcakes and gluten-free chocolate-peanut butter bars.

“We decided the March date to give our bakers some time to prepare,” said Compassion For Animals organizer Gary Loewenthal. The bake sale had been postponed since February due to the heavy snowstorms.

Proceeds from Saturday’s sale are going to Food For Life, the world’s largest vegan food relief organization, said Loewenthal.Food For Life has distributed over 830 million vegan meals worldwide since its founding in 1974.

DC Vegan, a Metro area vegan activist organization, is also sponsoring Saturday’s bake sale.
