Lasso Tops AASU Tourney

Falls Church resident and Queens University of Charlotte junior golfer Ben Lasso shot  the tournament low 67 (five under par) in Round Two to clinch the top individual spot at the Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) Pirate Invitational.

The invitational took place over Feb. 22 – 23.

Lasso’s  67 the second day  put him up by one stroke after two rounds of play at the Southbridge Golf Club, Savannah, Ga. last Tuesday. He finished the tournament with a card total of 140, four strokes under par. As a team, Queens  finished in fourth place behind Flagler College, AASU and UNC-Pembroke.

Lasso found himself tied for 7th after shooting a one over 73 in a very soggy and cold Round One.

One round of the scheduled three round tournament was forced to be cancelled when play was suspended after a four-hour rain delay. But the next day brought sunshine and warmer weather. Lasso’s game heated up as well; Lasso led the Queens team with 26 puts for 18 holes and five birdies as he caught and passed the leaders.

Lasso has steadily  improved his play this 2009-10 school year with two top ten finishes in the prior four tournaments.

Queens University has enjoyed success in team play as well and is ranked 31st Nationally among about 200 NCAA Div. 2 Universities.
