Open Kitchen, the new community commercial kitchen and bistro opening in Falls Church’s West Metro Plaza, is starting its fall cooking class schedule on September 14.
Classes are available on a wide selection of topics including various techniques, ethnic cuisines, healthy cooking options, every day meals made easy, pastries, pies and desserts. Class are also available for children. Open Kitchen is owned and operated by Hue-Chan Karels and John Karels. Chau Agon, Linda Skiles and Holly Camalier are also part of the management team. Dates for the commercial kitchen leasing and bistro opening have not yet been announced. Open Kitchen is located at 7115 Leesburg Pike in Falls Church. Syms, the discount retailer of designer apparel and household goods that claims “An Educated consumer is our best customer”, has opened its new location in Seven Corners between Shoppers Food Warehouse and Michaels (formerly occupied by Best Buy). Syms Corp operates a chain of “Off Price” stores throughout the north eastern, middle Atlantic regions and in the Midwest, Southeast and the Southwest. Dogfish Head Alehouse, State Farm, ServPro and North Shore Design are co-hosting the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce‘s Monthly Networking Mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25. The free event, which is open to friends of the business community, will include door prizes and a cookout in the parking lot of 400 N. Washington Street. The Mixer will be moved into the first floor offices of State Farm and North Shore design should weather prove challenging. The Original Pancake House is donating 15% of proceeds for the day to the Prevention of Blindness Society of the Metropolitan Area on Thursday, August 27. The nonprofit provides eye care testing for 5000 children and more than 7,500 homeless and disadvantaged members of the DC area community.
