Headfirst Hosts Sports Shake Camp

Headfirst Camps will offer their Sports Shake Camp for boys and girls aged 6 – 13 from Monday, Aug. 10 – Friday, Aug. 14 at Saint Luke School (7005 Georgetown Pike, McLean). The camp will offer a variety of team sports, traditional camp games and adventure events all mixed into one camp.

The camp also introduces athletes to the Headfirst Adventure Rock Climbing Wall and the Headfirst Water Play Slide. Some of the team sports offered will include baseball, basketball, soccer, flag football, street hockey and European Team Handball to emphasize individual skills, basic fundamentals and techniques, team-play and overall fitness and well-being in a positive teaching and learning environment. The camp will promote development of athletics, leadership, sportsmanship, hustle, self-confidence and fun. The Sports Shake Camp is $355. McLean Center Offers Kids Cooking Techniques

Culinary Arts Camp at the McLean Community Center (1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean) will host Chef Joel Olsen from Monday, August 10 – Friday, August 14. He will teach a morning session from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and an afternoon session from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. The camp is designed for ages 8-12 and 13-17. Each day, students prepare a different meal and then dine on what they have made.

Topics include kitchen rules and responsibilities, knife safety, cleanliness, table manners and common courtesy. The cost of the summer cooking camp includes all food and materials.

All camps are limited to 12 participants. Campers must wear short sleeved shirts, socks and closed toe shoes. Long hair must be pulled back and no jewelry or painted fingernails permitted. Oakton Pre-K Summer Camp Encourages Creativity

At the Harmonia School of Music & Arts (2942 Hunter Mill Rd., Oakton), registration for the Session II Pre-K Summer Camp is open. The program itself will take place Monday – Friday, Aug. 17 – 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Appropriate for children ages 4-5, participants will enjoy storytelling and creative movement activities that are sure to engage the imagination, enhance self expression and spark curiosity. Campers will be introduced to the piano, as well as enjoy making creative art projects with Harmonia’s dedicated early childhood counselors.
