Two Falls Church Pizza restaurants have been included in a pizza pool and competition being conducted by the Best Bites Blog at Washingtonian.com. Flippin’ Pizza with another new restaurant in Chantilly, and Pie-tanza, which also has a restaurant in Arlington, are among the 32 Washington Metro area pizzeria’s included in The Pizza Pool, which starts Monday, August 10. Sixteen architectural and site design winners have been selected to receive the 25th Annual Fairfax County Exceptional Design Awards. The recipients were selected by the design jury for the Fairfax County Exceptional Design Awards Program based on how well they exemplify a superior work of architecture, incorporate total site design and landscaping, the context of the work in relationship to its surroundings, and their application of energy and water conservation, and other green building practices. For the complete release, including award recipients and related links, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov.

 

The Washington Business Journal and the Greater Washington Board of Trade are accepting nominations for the 2009 Greater Washington Green Business Awards. These awards are designed to recognize all those in the Greater Washington area that are making efforts to incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into their businesses and community work. Award categories include: Innovation, Green Giving, Visionary, Invention, Design and Workplace. The Washington Business Journal and the Greater Washington Board of Trade will recognize the finalists and announce the winners at an awards reception in October. The Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce’s new President Marcia S. Twomey started her new position August 3. Twomey spent 11 years working with the Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation and Vinson Hall Corporation in marketing and development positions and she has been an active member of the McLean Chamber through those organizations. Virginia Commerce Bank has named Ronald K. Hobson as Senior Vice President, Government Contract Lending. Hobson has more than 25 years of commercial lending and government experience including having served as the Associate Deputy Administrator for Government Contracting and Minority Enterprise Development at the US Small Business Administration.
