F.C. Man Killed in Car Crash

LOUISA CO. – A Falls Church man is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Louisa County, Va. on Thursday, June 11, 2009.

At 6:53 a.m., Virginia State Police Trooper J.C. Vernon was called to the scene on Route 15 approximately two miles north of Interstate 64.

 

A 2003 Toyota Matrix was traveling south on Route 15 when it crossed the centerline and struck a northbound dump truck head-on. The driver of the Toyota, Josè A. Torres-Melendez, 29, died at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck, Steven M. Sprouse, was not injured in the crash. The dump truck was loaded with two tons of gravel.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

A Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Motor Carrier Safety Trooper are assisting with the investigation of the fatal crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
