U13 Girls – The team (7-3) played two playoff games, beating Alexandria, 10-9, Thursday night, and losing to tournament champion Prince William, 8-6, on Saturday. Both games were decided by a slim margin.
In the first round, Falls Church scored quickly and led by five or six goals for much of the game. Toward the end of the game, Alexandria stormed back from a 10-4 deficit with five consecutive goals, but the defense held on for the victory. Shannon Upton, Claire Saunders, Claire Tourkin and Haley Zullo had two goals each, and Savanna Sulc and Maeve Curtain scored one each.
The Saturday semifinal game started with terrific defense by both teams. Haley Zullo scored three goals for Falls Church, and Maeve Curtain, Claire Saunders and Savanna Sulc scored one each. Rae Mondragon led the defense in both games, and goalie Taylor Gagnon had a number of saves.
U11 Girls – The U11 Mustangs finished the season against top seed Annandale in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday.
The scoring load was shared by Maddie Hof with two goals and an assist, Sarah Lubnow with three goals and an assist, Hannah Hiscott with a goal and an assist and Maeve Donnelly with two goals.
The Mustang midfield provided strong transitional play and solid defense, with contributions from Lily Saunders and Claire Hiscott. Defensively, Jackie Nnaji and Daria Glennon often frustrated the Annandale offense. Goalie Maria Torregrosa had a save average around 50 percent. Annandale was able to take advantage of small breaks in the Falls Church offense and scored a few goals throughout the game.
U13 Boys Red – The undefeated team won 5-3 over Fort Hunt Saturday. Michael Fraser scored two goals at critical points in the game; Nicolas Casillas scored two goals and mid-fielder Jack Noordhuizen added a goal. The team defense was led by Kevin Fraser in goal and Brendan Gagnon. The team is seeded in third and will play the sixth seed Prince William on Saturday.
U11 Boys Black – The team wrapped up its regular season with a come-from-behind victory over host McLean. After falling behind 4-1 in the second quarter, Falls Church scored nine unanswered goals to secure a 10-4 win. The point scorers were Ethan Wolak (three), Jack Hennessey (two; one assist), Connar Mulcahy (two; one assist), Will Gaskins (one; one assist), Brendon Smith (one; one assist), Conor O’Leary with one goal, and Greg Duncan with one assist. The Mustangs finished the season, 5-3-1. The team is seeded in fifth and will play fourth seed Fauquier.
U11 Boys Red – The team completed their season playing their best four quarters. The boys played great defense and were outstanding on ground balls, with 44 as a team overall. Showing great hustle were Joe Barth (11 ground balls and one shot), Grant Johnson (five ground balls), Nick Kardis (five ground balls and one shot), Trevor Hayes (four ground balls and two shots), Scott Wilcher (four ground balls), Evan Motta (three ground balls), and Matt Buchanan (three ground balls and one shot). Jake Armendariz had four saves in goal. They enter playoffs as the eighth seed and will take on first seed Springfield on Saturday.
U9 Boys Red – The team finished the season with a game against Chantilly at the U9 Lacrosse Festival. Brothers Ben and John Meeks scored, as did Jack Gradle, Henry Casillas and Andrew Tyeryar. Thomas Majure and Casillas passed the ball to Daniel Ross, who threw a scorcher for his very first goal. Ayrton Quiroz and Edward Solms maintained ball possession. Christian Ross and Jack Savage were a commanding presence in the goal.
