Falls Church celebrated American history and its own Civil War heritage on May 16 with a series of activities and reenactments at Cherry Hill Park. Festivities began at 10 a.m. with period music at the farmhouse as military and civilian reenactors created vignettes of 1860s life around the park. Reenactors regaled visitors with tales of life and its hardships during the war, including an interview with Thaddeus Lowe, a Civil War balloonist and spy. Falls Church and Cherry Hill Park are gearing up for 150th anniversary of the Civil War in 2011. (Photos: Gary Mester, Courtesy Diane Morse)
