Nadine Nell Wilson (Bondurant), 95, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, from natural causes in her home at The Jefferson retirement community at 900 N. Taylor St. in Arlington.
Nadine was the first child born to Georgia and William P. Bondurant on September 13, 1913, in Kirksville, Missouri. Nadine married George M. Wilson (1914 – 2007), her college sweetheart, on July 11, 1937. George and Nadine enjoyed a 68-year marriage. She is survived by four children and their spouses: G. Stephen and Carole Wilson of Festus, Mo., John and Pat Wilson of Athens, Ga., Charlotte Koger and Sam LoPresto of East Lansing, Miss. and Scott and Cathy Wilson of Arlington. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren (in order of birth) (Paige, Christina, Christie, Jeff, Dayna, Rachel, Tommy, Patrick, Joey) and 11 great grandchildren (Fletcher, Wilson, Virginia, Cameron, Caroline, Mason, Dylan, Annabelle, Lauren, Henry, Genevieve). She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. As a passionate and compassionate educator, she nurtured learning and perfection in her students and family members.
Nadine graduated from Kirksville H.S. in 1930, Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) with a B.A. in Education in 1933. She continued her training in Evanston, IL earning her M.A. in Education from Northwestern University. After graduation from Northwestern University she taught business classes at a vocational school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Wilson family moved to Falls Church in 1961 where Nadine was a business teacher at George Mason Jr.-Sr. High School until her retirement in 1978.
Nadine and her husband George were active members of the Falls Church Presbyterian Church since 1961. Nadine served as a Deacon and was a member of the Lydia Circle for many years. She was also an active member of the community, serving Meals on Wheels and doing taxes for seniors. Nadine was an active member of the Falls Church Women’s Club, serving as President for multiple terms.
Nadine was a life-long learner who enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, playing a mean game of bridge, finding new books to read and being a member of The Jefferson choir. Nadine will be deeply missed by her family and friends at The Jefferson. As matriarch of her extended family she leaves a significant hole in the fabric of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents of Kirksville, MO, her sister, Geraldine Bartlett of Sequim, WA, and her husband, George M. Wilson. Nadine recently attended her brother William “Bill” Bondurant’s 90th birthday in Sedalia, MO.
The Memorial Service was Tuesday, May 26 at The Jefferson, 900 N. Taylor St. Arlington, VA, 22203.
