Stuart’s teams placed first in the men’s quad race, as well as in the men’s and women’s single events. The Varsity quad team, consisting of senior Nathan Bent, junior Jacob Derzon, senior captain Francis Kinney and sophomore Alex Trakowski, posted 5:41.6 to beat Hylton.

In the individual events, senior Tarek Al-Khulaidy, who has been rowing for two years, clinched the cup in 6:27.5, 20 seconds ahead of North Mooreland.

Senior Abby Voss completed her race in 7:14.8 to take her last high school rowing gold before heading to Old Dominion University this fall, on a crew scholarship.

Voss, who also plays volleyball and basketball for Stuart, was the first Stuart athlete to receive The Washington Post’s All-Met Award in over nine years last year.

Voss has rowed since 2005, when her older brother, and the team’s coach, Reid Voss, encouraged the young athlete to join crew.

“It was the first time in many years that the team got first place in three different events,” said Coach Voss, who is also a Stuart crew alumnus from the 1990s.

“For a small school like Stuart, it’s a big deal to stay competitive and win against the larger schools,” he added.

Selected rowers will attend the Stotesbury Regatta this Friday, May 15, in Philadelphia, Penn., and the national championship will be held in Princeton, N.J. on May 22.
