F.C. U13 Boys Black
The U13 Boys Black “A” team played their best game of the year against a very experienced Annandale squad, with Annandale prevailing 5-3.
The Mustangs scored first as Sebastian Kaye received a pass from Eriksen Johansen and beat the Annandale goalie. Johansen scored the second goal with an assist from Myles Cobb to push the Mustangs to a two-goal margin. Annandale scored to make it a one goal game before Myles Cobb scored an unassisted goal for a 3-1 halftime lead.
The Mustangs kept up the pace in the second half with multiple scoring opportunities but were not able to finish them while Annandale was able to score 4 goals to the end. The hustle in the midfield and defense was key to the team’s performance as well as the strong face-offs by Sean Fitzgerald who help the Mustangs win 8 of 11 face-offs.
F.C. U13 Boys Red
The Falls Church U13 Boys Red team ran their unbeaten streak to six games with two victories this weekend over Arlington, 9-4 and 7-2 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The wins started with solid defense which has continued to impress with good slides and The Rock Kevin Frasher in net. Attackman Nick Casillas has come into his own, running the offense with patience, and notching a hat-trick in both games.
The coaches were pleased with the otherwise even scoring between attack and mid-field: Michael Fraser (three goals), Chris Cardwell (two goals), Zane Masson (one goal), Jack Hammond (one goal), Jack Noordhuizen (one goal), Jackson Jost (one goal), and Andrew Williamson (one goal). The boys are looking forward to the contest this upcoming weekend versus Springfield who look to be a tough opponent. The team is currently in third place.
F.C. U13 Girls
The Falls Church U13 girls lacrosse team defeated Fort Hunt 9-8 for their fifth victory this spring. The close game seesawed back and forth, with Fort Hunt getting an early 3-1 lead. Falls Church managed to tie the game at 4-4 at halftime, and moved to a 9-5 lead in the second half before Fort Hunt nearly caught up.
Ultimately, the game was decided in the 10 seconds before and after halftime. In the closing seconds of the first half, Falls Church moved the ball up the length of the field, and Savanna Sulc scored with two seconds left.
Claire Saunders opened the second half by scooping up a loose ball following the draw, and outran the field for an unassisted goal. Falls Church played strong defense during the second and third quarters, and Taylor Gagnon saved enough shots to help enable the victory. The team is now in second place with a record of five wins and two losses.
F.C. U11 Boys Black
The U11 Boys Black team won both ends of a double-header this past weekend.
On Saturday, the visiting Mustangs gutted out a 3-1 win over Great Falls. Connar Mulcahy opened the scoring on an unassisted goal in the first quarter. Connar scored again, on a pass from Greg Duncan, to make it 2-0. Great Falls cut the deficit to 2-1 just before halftime.
The second half turned out to be a defensive battle, with just a single goal being tallied by either team. Alex Tyeryar closed out the scoring, on a five-yard shot midway through the third quarter, with Will Gaskins assisting on the play.
On Sunday afternoon, the Mustangs travelled to Oak Marr Park and beat a scrappy Fairfax Police team 8-3. Connar Mulcahy and Jack Hennessey each registered two goals and two assists on the day. Greg Duncan, Conor O’Leary, Drew Trauth and Ethan Wolak also scored goals for Falls Church. Brendon Smith recorded an assist.
The Mustangs jumped ahead early in the contest and built a 6-3 halftime lead. In the second half, they ran a ball-control style offense. Greg Duncan scored the final goal of the game on a beautiful drive and bounce shot from about seven yards out. The U11 Black team, 3-0-1 in their past four games, improved to 3-3-1 on the season.
This weekend, the U11 boys Black team hosts Dulles South, Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on the George Mason High School turf field.
F.C. U11 Boys Red
The U11 Boys took on perennially strong Annandale on Saturday. This group of Mustangs that include many players new to lacrosse hustled throughout the game but were not able to overcome Annandale. Trevor Hayes scored both goals for the Mustangs, one unassisted and one assisted by Ben Meeks. Jacob Armendariz was able to stop 12 of the 22 shots he faced.
F.C. U9 Boys Red
The U9 Red Team had another great game on Saturday. Captains Jack Savage and Henry Casillas led the squad against the ever-tough Alexandria 1 team.
Middies Andrew Tyeryar and Trevor Corn posted several goals between them, and attackman John Meeks scored his very first goal. Ayrton Quiroz made several beautiful clutch saves. Despite some fantastic individual play, this week’s “Guts of the Game” Award belongs to the entire squad.
F.C. U9 Girls Black
The U9 girls Black team played a great game against Alexandria 1. Four players scored goals: Clara Cobb, Kalena Wojtala, Shea Ruyak and Sarah Maller.
Lydia Grund, Sophia Hayes and Maggie Kardis shone on defense, winning numerous groundballs and forcing turnovers with good defense. Erin Barth and Olivia Cipriano moved the ball tirelessly at midfield.
