F.C. U13 Boys Black
For the first time this season, the U13 Boys Black lacrosse team was ahead 1-0 at the half against Manassas Battlefield at Moore Cadillac Stadium behind Raphe Schultz’s goal.
However, Manassas gained control in the third quarter winning 6-1. While the score would not necessarily indicate, goalie Dan Dusenberry had a stellar performance, with quickness and hustle that stopped many well-placed attempts by Manassas to score. Time and again, Dusenberry ventured out of the safety of the crease to chase ground balls and keep possession for Falls Church.
F.C. U13 Boys Red
Since two close loses in the beginning of the season, the U13 Boys Red team have run their unbeaten streak to three games with a 6-1 win over Prince William on Saturday. The Frasers continued their strong play with Kevin Fraser giving up only a single goal after a shutout against Arlington in his last game.
Attackman Michael Fraser tallied a hat-trick, attackman Nicolas Casillas buried two, and mid-fielder Jackson Jost opened the game with a goal. Long-stick defenseman Thomas Beddow, Brendan Gagnon and Jack Capone played the entire game and remained a steel curtain clearing the crease with several clean hits. However, the game-ball goes to mid-fielder Chris Cardwell who continues to impress his coaches with his hustle, game smarts and team play- all the intangibles that lead to winning.
F.C. U13 Girls
The U13 Girls played Prince William very closely although losing 8-6 in the rain on Sunday at Moore Cadillac Stadium. The team is in third place in the “B” southeast division and with two games remaining are preparing for the playoffs.
F.C. U11 Boys Black
The boys notched their first victory of the season, a convincing 8-3 win over host Loudon West. Connar Mulcahy received a nice pass from Drew Trauth to score the first goal. Ethan Wolak increased the lead to 2-0, scoring on a feed from Will Gaskins.
Connar Mulcahy then scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-0. Loudon West cut the deficit to 3-1. In the second quarter, Jack Hennessey scored off a pass from Drew Trauth to build a 4-1. Loudon West countered with two quick goals to close to 4-3 at halftime. Early in the third quarter, Connar Mulcahy scored his 3rd and 4th goal of the game, one from a feed from Drew Trauth and the other unassisted to give the Mustangs a comfortable 6-3 lead. Greg Duncan and Brendon Smith finished the scoring for Falls Church. Duncan’s goal was unassisted while Drew Trauth assisted on Smith’s goal, a give-and-go giving Trauth four assists for the game.
F.C. U11 Girls
The Mustangs played another very close game. In spite of a very rainy and cold day the U11 squad came roaring off the starting whistle springing quickly to a solid lead. At the half the Mustangs were leading 7-4, and as the second half started they extended that lead to 10-4. Unfortunately, at this point their opponents recovered from their surprise at the very strong and commanding play by Falls Church. Taking advantage of the substantial advantage rule (any team down by four or more automatically gets the ball after a goal), Alexandria built up tremendous momentum and went on a scoring spree posting nearly eight unanswered goals. The Mustangs faltered slightly but managed to recover and were staging a comeback when the clock ran out. The final score was 15-13 in favor of Alexandria. Highlights of the individual performances were six goals by Sarah Lubnow, five by Maddie Hof and one each by Bridgett Rorrer and Maeve Donnelly. Caroline Duffet again posted a strong performance in the goal during the first half with a 60 percent save percentage. Team was very strong defensively, with Jackie Nnaji and Daria Glennon frequently frustrating their foes in close in defensive play and Kenya Bliss, Meghan O’Donnell, and Elizabeth Kerrigan controlling the loose balls. Midfield play was a strong collaboration between Lily Saunders, Anna Dubro, Claire and Hannah Hiscott. Falls Church continues to play all comers evenly and every game has been an exciting event.
