Rides are free on the City of Falls Church’s GEORGE bus system today as a mystery benefactor has reportedly picked up the tab for all riders in hopes of encouraging a large turnout of GEORGE supporters at tonight’s Falls Church City Council budget hearing. According to News-Press sources, at least one City Council member is pursuing the identity of the benefactor and the circumstances surrounding the ploy. Funding for GEORGE is at risk of being cut by the Council as it crafts its operating budget for the coming fiscal year in difficult economic times, as rides on GEORGE are being subsidized to the tune of $8 a ride.
