Impulsive, the eclectic gift shop located at The Broadway, 502 W Broad Street, officially closed its doors Sunday, March 29. Jim Koons Automotive Companies is opening a new Koons Nissan in Falls Church. The dealership, formerly Koons Dodge, is located at 1051 East Broad Street next to Koons Ford in the Seven Corners area. The new dealership’s grand opening is scheduled for mid-May. Jim Koons Automotive is a billion dollar company with 19 locations in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware with over 1,300 employees. The Falls Church Chamber of Commerce celebrated the spirit of Falls Church, kicked off the City School’s 60th Anniversary and honored leaders in the community at its Awards Gala held Saturday, March 28. Chamber Chairman from 2007-2008, Gary LaPorta (Miniatures from the Attic) received the inaugural Falls Church City Business in Education Partner of the Year Award while Edna Frady received the Chamber Appreciation Award, Hope Galley (American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life) received the James S. Elkin Award for Humanitarianism, Tom Gittins (Art and Frame of Falls Church) received the Carroll V. Shreve Award and John Shreve (Shreve McGonegal) received the highest honor of the evening, the Pillar of the Community Award. Along with the awards, the evening’s program included a video history of the Chamber’s relationship with the Falls Church schools, a silent auction featuring almost 80 items donated by local businesses, and a live auction with Colm Dillon, owner of Ireland’s Four Provinces . The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance and the US Small Business Administration is conducting its next monthly workshop for individuals interested in starting a business in Fairfax on April 7. The workshop provides an overview of start-up basics such as licenses and permits, workforce service and training programs, and resources, financing and certification programs.
