Falls Church Curves is partnering with Avon to continue the single largest women’s fitness study ever conducted. Based on the preliminary results from the 2008 Curves/Avon Fitness Study, 20,141 participants lost a total of 36,000 pounds during the 30-day study. Falls Church Curves is looking for local women to participate in the study as it continues in 2009. Participants will have access to the Curves workout for 30 days for just $30, and must complete at least 12 workouts over a 30-day period, with a minimum of three workouts per week. Participants will receive pre-and-post fitness evaluations and supervised training from a Curves trainer. As an added incentive, each participant who completes a post fitness evaluation at the end of the study will receive a free gift courtesy of Curves and Avon. The Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce announced the resignation of Bill Lecos as President and CEO. Lecos will continue his involvement with the Chamber as a Senior Policy Advisor, consulting on advocacy and key legislative issues that are critical to Fairfax businesses. During his tenure, Lecos delivered a number of significant successes for the Chamber and its stakeholders. His leadership on key transportation initiatives, such as Rail to Dulles, and his efforts to help craft and gain support for the innovative “Transforming Tysons” project will have long lasting socio-economic benefits for the community. Bill leaves at a time when the Chamber Board is seeking to add value through enhanced membership initiatives. The current COO of the Chamber and veteran of the hospitality industry, Richard Frisch, has been appointed as interim CEO. CommuniKids Language School for Children is opening a Spanish and French Immersion Preschool in the City of Falls Church in the fall. It will be the first complete immersion preschool in the area and will function like a regular preschool but will be entirely in Spanish or French. The Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program is hosting Business Hazardous Waste Collection Days on April 1, July 22, and October 7 at the I-66 Transfer Station Complex at 4618 West Ox Road. Each event will run from 9am-2pm. These events offer an economical way for businesses that produce less than 100 kilograms of hazardous waste per month to legally dispose of hazardous waste.
