Hughes Financial Solutions is hosting a Free College Funding discussion at Stacy’s Coffee Parlor. “Coffee Time with College Funding” will take place on Thursday, January 24 from 7 – 8 p.m. Topics include how the financial aid process really works, how to qualify for more aid, how to pay for college the most tax efficient way, how to pick schools ahead of time that will give you the most free money, and how to pay thousands less than the “Sticker Price” of a school. Art and Frame of Falls Church, Falls Church Arts, Bill Abel Watercolors and the Community Phone Book are co-hosting the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce’s January Networking Mixer from 5:30 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22. The event, which will take place at 111 Park Avenue in Falls Church, is free and open to the general public. Refreshments will be provided and attendees will receive a free gift while quantities last.  

 

The Business Alliance of George Mason University is holding its 5th Annual Bootcamp for Growing Companies and Entrepreneurs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at the McLean Hilton in Tysons Corner. The agenda will include sessions on financing, managing growth, employee recruitment and retention, sales and marketing and opportunities in energy, environmental services, security, and government contracting. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority announced that Jim Mayer has been elected as Chairman of the NVRPA Board. Mayer, who becomes only the fourth Chairman in the organization’s 49-year history, has been a part of the NVRPA Board since 2001. He previously served as the Board Treasurer, and most recently as Vice Chairman to Bill Dickinson. Su Webb, a board member since 2003, was named Vice Chairman and Brian Knapp, a board member since 2007, was named Treasurer. Lockheed Martin has been selected by Fairfax County to integrate, install and maintain a complete Audio/Visual systems suite at the county's new Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center (PSTOC). Under the four-year, $6.8 million contract, Lockheed Martin will install A/V systems in the new PSTOC that will include multiple large format video wall displays, streaming video and numerous flat screen displays. The system also features localized sound reinforcement, video conferencing, press connectivity, video projection, networked audio and video components, an in-house cable TV system, and A/V support for meeting rooms. PSTOC will be a state-of-the-art facility housing public safety response agencies at the county, state and regional levels. It is expected to become operational by fall 2008.

Uncle George, a new eat-in/carry-out Falls Church restaurant, will be opening next month in the West End Shopping Center at 1078 W. Broad Street. Uncle George, which will feature chicken, ribs and burgers, is owned and operated by the Home Design Center family which recently opened the new Falls Church location right next door. An exact opening date has not been determined.
