Jody’s Jam of The Week

Compassion Over Killing Funding Day at Java Green, January 19 at 11 a.m.

I’ve never been one to pass up a good steak or cheeseburger. I’ve waxed poetically about my love for red meat and bacon in many a Jam of the Week. However, this time, I’m recommending something completely different. Finishing up my second week on a strict vegan diet, I’ve come to appreciate the lifestyle of the omnivore. Restricting oneself from eating things made from the use of animals might seem scary and crazy at first (c’mon, no cheese?!?), it’s not as difficult as it appears and it’s a good test of one’s will power. And, while my motives behind going vegan are not shared by the majority of my plant-eating brethren, it doesn’t mean I don’t support their causes. This Saturday, Compassion Over Killing (COK) is holding their monthly funding day at Java Green Organic Eco Cafe, where you can nosh on cruelty-free eats. A portion of the bill benefits COK, so you can feel doubly good about stuffing your face. If your up to it, give soy a shot, just be sure to leave your furs at home.
