The Falls Church Business and Professional Women are inviting members of the public to their dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, November 5 at La Promessa (7630 Lee Highway). The evening program will feature well known Brig. General Wilma Vaught, USAF speaking on “Women in the Military.” Gen. Vaught is a highly decorated officer who served for 28 years, including tours in Vietnam and Spain. She is President of the Women in Service Memorial in Arlington Cemetery. Northern Virginia Tutoring Service, Hughes Financial Solutions, and Admissions Consultants are offering a free college workshop entitled “Preparing, Applying and Funding” on Saturday, December 8 for parents of students who are planning to attend college in the next several years. This workshop will be held at the Falls Church Community Center from 1 – 3 p.m. Dr. Ralph G. Perrino (Northern Virginia Tutoring Service), Todd Hughes (Hughes Financial Solutions) and David Petersam (Admissions Consultants) will discuss issues that are on the minds of all parents of prospective college students. Art and Frame of Falls Church has expanded its product line. In addition to original artwork, prints, cards, books and gift items from local artists and organizations and custom framing, they are now offering art supplies, including sketch pads, paint brushes, painting sets, watercolor and acrylic paints and artist pens and pencils. Broad Street Tavern has named Josh Bell as its new general manager. Local resident Bell has worked in various capacities in the restaurant for almost two years. The Falls Church Foot & Ankle Center is conducting its Annual Shoe Drive, this year to benefit Kokolopori, Falls Church's Sister City. New or gently used shoes can be dropped by the Foot & Ankle Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until the end of December 2007. The Foot & Ankle Center, which is owned and operated by Dr. Paul B. Cannon, is located at 104-A East Broad Street. Vantage Fitness and RE/MAX Distinctive’s Neighborhood Home Team, teamed up with the Friends & Fitness Runners Program to raise $1,100 and 80 pairs of athletic running shoes for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington, Alexandria/ Fairfax Region. The fundraising/shoe donations came from running program participants and members of Falls Church-based Vantage Fitness. Shoe donations were provided to assist boys and girls in their one-mile “fun run” during this year’s Marine Corps Marathon. The City of Falls Church is seeking nominations for its 2007 Business Awards. Awards will be granted in seven categories: Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Most Improved Commercial Property, Environmental Stewardship, Excellence in Customer Service and Innovative Technology. Completed nomination forms are due by Friday, November 16. Nomination forms are available at City Hall (300 Park Ave.), the Community Center (223 Little Falls St.), the Mary Riley Styles Public Library (120 N.
