Memorial Day Parade and Festival, Park Ave., Falls Church, Monday, May 28, all day. Parade at 2 p.m.

An annual event since the early 1980s, this is the premiere event of the year in this town. Of course, its primary purpose is to provide a solemn opportunity for all citizens to honor those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice to defend the nation and its democratic values, and there will be an 11 a.m. service to do that in front of the Community Center. But in addition, all the students are home from college and the high school students, many anticipating graduation, are still around. It is one big town reunion, and it also brings beaucoup people from throughout the region. The day starts with the Don Beyer Volvo fun run at 9 a.m. and the parade commences at 2 p.m. Don’t miss the News-Press’ new, forest green (the color of trees and money) Mustang in the parade!
