F.C. Youth Lax Enjoys Success

The Falls Church Youth Lacrosse Club (FCYLC) is enjoying a growth spurt this year, fielding more teams than ever before, and a number of the teams are demonstrating strong records. After six games in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League, the FCYLC Boys U13 team is undefeated and the U11 team has only one loss, marking a very successful season to date. Both teams are significantly outscoring their opponents, the U13s by 38 goals and the U11s by 22 goals.

Leading the scoring for the U13s are Brent Armstrong and Ben Tourkin, while Eriksen Johansen, Peter Kress, Sean Cormany and Brandon Ward pace the U11s. Hustle award (ground balls) winners for the U11s are CJ Tyeryar, Alex Kardis and Jackson Cogar. The U13 goalies are Nathaniel Schwarz and Keenan Glahn and for the U11s Dan Dusenberry and Hayden Sausville.

The Club’s Girls U13 and U11 teams are playing competitively against some of the toughest competition in Northern Virginia. Leading the scoring for the U13 girls are Kelly Ready and Caroline Stahley and, for the U11s, Kendall Swenson, Maeve Curtin, Claire Tourkin and Haley Zullo comprise the scoring leaders. Emma Washa stepped into the goal for the U13s at the last game and did extremely well, while Rae Mondragon has been anchoring the U11 defense at goal. The girls teams have a lot of new players this year who have significantly improved their skills and are getting to know each other as a team.

Each of the U9 teams for boys and girls are enjoying a great season, fielding more players than ever before. The U9 games are non-competitive, with no score being kept. Nevertheless, the league’s schedule provides for spirited play against strong teams from around the area. Goalies are Chandler Bolger and Joe Barth for the Boys U9 team, while the Girls U9 do not play with goaltenders.

All Falls Church Youth Lacrosse teams are hosting games at George Mason High School this weekend — the boys play Saturday morning and the girls Sunday afternoon. See www.fclaxclub.com for the times for each team. The Boys U13s play Stafford, another undefeated team, while the Boys U11 play the Fort Hunt team, also with only one loss so far this season. The girls will face Braddock Road and Alexandria respectively.
