The Big Jig, Saturday, March 17, Mt. Vernon Square, Washington, D.C.
Do you hear that? That’s the sound of heads exploding all over the country from sensory overload. It happens each year when mid-March rolls around. First, there’s Spring Break— which unleashes thousands of college students into the wild to indulge in a week-long booze-fest Second, there’s NCAA March Madness— the basketball-induced mania that turns offices into back alley betting halls, packs bars with rabid alumni, and reduces productivity by at least 1000%. And then, to cap it all off, March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day— one of only two days a year it’s perfectly acceptable to drink green beer (the other, being the day after St. Paddy’s Day, to finish it all up). In order to keep sane and prevent a cranial explosion, I recommend limiting yourself to a single activity this Saturday. Namely, DC-based Celtic rockers Scythian’s The Big Jig— a day-long bash in Mt. Vernon Square complete with a big tent and giant vats of beer. Trust me, there will be plenty of basketball and green beer left over on Sunday.
