McLean Splits Pair, Preps for Rival Langley

The McLean High School girls volleyball team went up against a very strong Chantilly team on Monday night, losing the match 3 games to none (22-25, 10-25, 18-25).  The first game went down to the wire with the Highlanders getting strong net play from Teka Tshishimbi, who had several fine kills, and the rest of the team exhibiting solid passes and sets.  But games two and three proved more difficult for the young McLean team as Chantilly played almost error-free and enjoyed consistently strong serving.

The Chantilly match followed McLean’s Sept. 14 victory over Mount Vernon in another non-district contest.  The outcome against Mount Vernon was 25-6, 25-11 and 25-17, with McLean showing strength in all aspects of the game.  The Highlanders serving was strong and both the back and front rows demonstrated quickness and solid team play.  Alyson McComas and Kate Comey claimed numerous points with powerful hitting and McLean’s defense was also outstanding.

McLean’s record for the season now stands at 3-3, with all contests having been against non-district opponents.  McLean’s next match is at Lake Braddock on Wednesday, Sept. 20.  Next week they travel to Madison on Sept 25 and then face Langley at home on Sept. 26.
