Mason V-Ball Ups Record to 6-1

Mason VolleyballGeorge Mason’s girls volleyball team continued their early season dominance winning against National Cathedral on Monday and sweeping Briar Woods Tuesday night, to improve to 6-1 on the year.

“The girls are really working together,” said head coach Lauren Luck.  “They are covering well and our setters are getting much better at getting the ball where it needs to be.”

In Monday’s match up the Mustangs were anchored by strong performances from servers Annie Zweighaft, who was 9 for 9 and Katie Mitchell who had six kills and 25 serves inbounds. Kim Kenny, four kills and three blocks, and Bailey Walton, five kills, also contributed strong play as the Mustangs went on to take the final game of a grueling five game set.

In Tuesday’s victory over Briar Woods, the Mustangs were dominant from start to finish, taking all three sets with scores 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21.  Senior captains Brittany Head and Sabrina Whitney led an excellent defense effort that kept capitalized on the Falcons mistakes.

Tegan Argo was a perfect 19 for 19 serving while Mitchell chipped in again, delivering six aces.

Both the freshman and junior varsity squads won their respective matches, 2-1 and 3-0 to complete the Mustang dominance.

Mason travels to AA school Washington Lee tonight at 7:30 p.m., where it hopes to continue to build on the success of their veteran squad.

We’re continually playing smarter, said Luck, “We just need to focus on keeping our intensity up from beginning to end.”
