At its work session Monday night, the Falls Church City Council learned of aggressive efforts locally to help the most vulnerable citizens and smallest businesses for which even a $2,000 micro grant can make a huge difference for keeping doors open.

At least 24 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the City of Falls Church, according to data from the Virginia Department of Health and later confirmed to the News-Press by the Fairfax County Health Department.

But the compound problems vexing the Fairfax County system have been entirely absent from the City of Falls Church’s online education program that kicked off a fourth quarter with better than 90 percent student attendance this week.

On Sunday, the Fairfax Health District had its largest one-day jump in Covid-19 cases to date, reporting 184 new cases, bringing its total to 1,820, according to data from the Virginia Department of Health.

Coronavirus cases in the Fairfax Health District surpassed 1,600 on Saturday, as the Virginia Department of Health announced 158 new positive cases, the second largest day-over-day increase so far.

Despite the novel coronavirus leaving many businesses shuttered or barely operating, the housing market has remained, so far, relatively sturdy in the Falls Church area, albeit with some new precautions in place to protect buyers and agents.
