GOP’s Case Dismissed Vs. Fairfax School Board Candidate-Elect

This morning, the Fairfax County Circuit Court dismissed the second case the Eighth Congressional District Republican Committee filed attempting to disqualify Franconia School Board–Elect Marcia C. St. John-Cunning. St. John-Cunning won a landslide victory over opponent Kevin Pinkney on November 7, but the GOP believed they could litigate his way onto the board.

Said St. John-Cunning in a statement today: “It’s astonishing that the GOP wasted so much money and time on two baseless court cases to prevent more than 17,000 voters from having their values represented in our schools. As we’ve seen across the country, this is another example of the GOP’s undemocratic attempts to disenfranchise voters to secure an election they could not win at the polls. Today, the will of the people and democracy are victorious. Thank you to the voters for entrusting me to serve as your voice. I commit to upholding the ideals of my campaign: to help ensure all students have a safe and inclusive environment in which to learn, and to make FCPS a welcoming, helpful, and respectful space for all families.”
