Fairfax County School Board Votes to Change Lee H.S. Named to John R. Lewis H.S.

The Fairfax County School Board voted Thursday night to rename Robert E. Lee High School to John R. Lewis High School beginning with the coming school year.

The school will drop the name of a Confederate general that undertook a bloody four-year insurgency against the government of the United States for the purpose of perpetuating slavery in favor of the name of the recently-deceased civil rights pioneer and long-time U.S. Congressman in John R. Lewis.
