Leading the way is senior Estelle Timar-Wilcox whose 13th place finish at the Gunpowder Falls Invitational in Jerusalem, MD this past weekend presented a challenge for the Mustangs. It was a change of pace for Mason’s girls cross country team as they’ve hosed their competition throughout the regular season with a 5-0 record. The clean slate was capped off by two big district wins in the past two weeks as the Mustangs defeated Madison County High School 19-44 on Oct. 4 and snagged the top five slots en route to a 15-85 victory over Clarke County High School on Oct. 11. A hilly course at Gunpowder Falls pushed Mason, but couldn’t stop the girls from finishing 4th out 19 teams.
On the final leg of his race at the Gunpowder Falls Invitational is sophomore Henry Brorsen, who wound up placing 34th and helped Mason’s boys cross country team place 7th out 32 teams this past weekend. The boys team hasn’t been quite as dominant as their fellow Mustangs on the girls side, but still have been more than comparable in Bull Run district competition. Facing off against Madison County two weeks ago, the boys won a slim 27-28 victory over the Mountaineers before cruising to a 20-48 win against Clarke County on Oct. 11 to finish the regular season at 4-1. Now, after some weekend competition to stay sharp, both the boys and the girls prepare for the postseason that’s set to kick off with a District Meet on Oct. 25.
