Falls Church’s Famous Dave’s has served its last rack of ribs.

In a surprise to many around town, the Little City location of the barbecue restaurant shuttered suddenly Monday, with locked doors, signage removed and a terse message on the door. The closing was so surprisingly abrupt, Falls Church’s Andrew Acosta Band, who regularly played at the restaurant and was scheduled to appear there Tuesday, only learned of the shutter on Monday and had to relocate its show at the last minute to Clare & Don’s Beach Shack.

Famous Dave’s opened in 2011 in the former Original Pancake House location space at Broadale Village Shopping Center on W. Broad St.

A note, taped to window of the restaurant on Monday, simply read “This location is now closed. Thank you for your business.,” along with a website to find its other locations.

City of Falls Church sources confirmed to the News-Press that the restaurant group that includes Arlington’s The Liberty Tavern, Lyon Hall and the City’s upcoming Northside Social coffee house — now in construction at the former Blue and Gray building — filed papers with the Planning Department Wednesday to take over the Famous Dave’s space. Sources tell the News-Press the group has plans for a new barbecue concept in its place.
