Carter Fendley, a senior at George Mason High School, was named the winner of Mason’s Poetry Out Loud competition on Friday, Dec. 2. Fendley beat out seven other performers to win the competition and will move on to the regional Poetry Out Loud competition.

Each performer, two of each grade, recited two poems apiece from memory and were judged on six criteria including accuracy, physical presence and articulation. Mason sophomore Grace Keenan was the runner up of the competition.

Before the show, in between round and after the show the George Mason High School Jazz Ensemble performed for the audience. For more information, visit poetryoutloud.org.
