A local organizing committee for the World Police & Fire Games that took place earlier this year has now begun distributing more than $200,000 in surplus funds to various 501c3 non-profit entities led by its four legacy partners. The four legacy partners are the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the Fairfax County Valor Awards Scholarship Fund and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation.

Distributions began on Friday, July 22 when Fairfax 2015 presented the $40,000 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Another $40,000 to the Fairfax County Valor Awards Scholarship Fund at the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce was given on Wednesday, July 20. On Thursday, July 21, National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund received $40,000. And a $35,000 donation for the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation has not been scheduled. The fund is to provide sporting equipment to select Fairfax County Public Schools.

“Fairfax 2015 is pleased and privileged to be able to recognize and support the efforts of each of our long-term legacy partners,” said Fairfax 2015 chairman, Kevin Reynolds. “We want to thank all those involved with the Games for their hard work and dedication in making the Games a success and allowing us this opportunity to support these exceptional organizations.”

In addition to the donations made to the Legacy Partners, $15,000 was given to the International Association of Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation, $15,000 to the Youth Sports Scholarships in Fairfax County to support existing youth sports scholarship programs and $15,000 for the games legacy projects to establish a new public safety building and for Fairfax athletes’ participation in future games.
