Culmore Leadership Event Planned for June 27 – July 1

Jasmin Chavez, a graduate of J.E.B. Stuart High School, is planning Culmore Leadership, an event for third, fourth and fifth graders that will take place from Monday, June 27 – Friday, July 1 at the Willston Multicultural Center.

The goal of the event is to motivate at-risk youth to become leaders and to adopt healthy lifestyles through physical activity in safe places away from the drugs and violence in their neighborhoods. Chavez is using funds she was awarded from the Griswold-Zepp Award, which she won from McDaniel College where she currently attends, to help fund the event.

Outside of the work she’s doing to organize the Culmore Leadership event, Chavez is interning at the White House this summer with the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
