GMHS Junior Akihira Maher Wins 1st Sticker Design Contest

Akihira Maher, a junior at George Mason High School, won the popular vote to take first place in the City of Falls Church’s maiden vehicle sticker design competition, it was announced at Monday night’s City Council meeting. His design centered on a bright red cardinal, the Virginia state bird. A $750 prize came with his victory.

The final designs were selected from a group of 12 submitted by area high school students to the City of F.C. treasurer.  Other finalists who shared smaller cash awards ranging from $150 to $500 were Annie and Alice Castillo and Maeve Keating.

Over 600 total votes were cast on line, City treasurer Jody Acosta said.
